    Sample Script:

Long version (if you’re speaking with a person)

Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m calling to urge the White House to cement Biden’s legacy as the Climate President with an ambitious and fair  NDC. A fair share NDC looks like

  1. an 80% reduction in GHG emissions domestically by 2035

  2. Acknowledge the need to provide climate finance to help developing countries reduce their emissions and respond to climate impacts.

  3. a Fast, Full, Fair, Funded, and Feminist Fossil Fuel Phaseout by 2031

    1. Urgency of Updated Climate Plans

      1. By February 2025, all countries must submit updated climate plans (NDCs) through 2035. This is our last chance to address the climate crisis and avoid catastrophic warming.

      2. With the U.S. on track to miss its commitments, President Biden has until January 20th to submit a bold Fair Share NDC.

    2. The U.S. Must Lead with Climate Justice

      1. North America’s 4% of the population has caused 24% of global emissions since 1850, while South Asia’s 25% of the population is responsible for only 4%.

      2. The U.S., as the wealthiest country and the largest historical emitter, has a moral obligation to act.

    3. End Fossil Fuel Expansion

      1. The U.S. is the largest oil and gas producer and has more expansion planned than any other country.

      2. To achieve climate goals, all new oil and gas expansion must stop immediately, and fossil fuel production must phase out by the early 2030s.

    4. What Does a Fair Share Look Like?

      1. The U.S.’s fair share of climate action requires:

      2. A 203% reduction in emissions below 2005 levels by 2035.

      3. 80% of these reductions domestically (cutting 6 billion tons of emissions).

      4. International support (finance and technology) to help other nations cut an additional 8 billion tons by 2030.

    5. Finance for Global Climate Action

      1. The U.S. must scale up international climate finance to at least $106 billion annually for mitigation and an additional $340 billion for adaptation and loss/damage, with the loss and damage funding being directed to the multilateral fund set up for the purpose.

      2. These funds will help developing nations transition to clean energy and cope with the devastating impacts of climate change.

    6. A Vision for Local and Global Leadership

      1. A bold NDC from Biden will signal the way forward for subnational governments, businesses, global allies, and other leaders to carry the climate mandate forward, even if the next administration backtracks.

    7. The Ask

      1. President Biden, will you commit to developing and pledging the first-ever Fair Share NDC before leaving office?

      2. This ambitious plan would cement the U.S.’s leadership, protect future generations, and ensure climate justice for the global community.

If there is any time to be ambitious, it is now.
Can I count on you to pass a Fair Share NDC before Trump takes office?
